Scary experiences

A horror story from the countryside of Sana'a

By: Hidden Hunter

Mountain nights in Yemen are not ordinary... Tales are told of spirits and jinns, of audible footsteps that no one sees, and of crying voices in the middle of the valleys. I am one of those who have experienced this horror, not by hearing it from others, but by experiencing it myself.
In one of the mountains of Arhab district, north of Sana'a. My story took place a year ago. It was not just a night of escape from revenge, but a night of conflict with supernatural beings... a night in which I almost lost my life, if not for the mercy of God, and then the iron of my weapon, which was the only thing between me and being possessed by these creatures.
I tell it to you today as I saw it with my own eyes, without adding or subtracting anything. Those who know Arhab and the surrounding villages know that what I am about to say is not alien to that land.

I am a young Yemeni man from a large family and a well-known tribe. We lived in a rural village outside the capital Sana'a, across the valley from another village belonging to a large tribe. In 2006, a dispute broke out between a young man from our village and another from the opposite village. The young man was killed by a son from our village, then the killer fled and no one knew his fate. The family of the deceased decided to take revenge and besieged our village, threatening to kill any young man from our village.

18 The sheikh feared for the youth, so he ordered all those between the ages of one and two to come out so that they would not be a target, while the women, children, and old people45 stayed at home, as these things are customary even in the fire of war. Each of us went out on our own to avoid confrontation. I said goodbye to my family, took some water, food and my weapon, and left my village.

I headed towards the mountain alone at night, climbing in the dark without a torch for fear of being seen. I reached the summit and sat there, listening to every breeze as if it were following me. I descended to the other side, crossed a valley, climbed a second and third mountain, and passed three villages cautiously, until I reached a terrifying mountain full of huge rocks and caves, but it was far from the two tribes, so I felt safe.

It was midnight, I was exhausted and scared, and the idea of spending the night there crowded into my head. I sat down next to a large rock holding my gun. As I ate some of my food, a small tent appeared in front of me thirty metres away, which had not been there moments before! I looked at it expectantly, and it got bigger and smaller and farther away until it disappeared. I thought it was an ambush or someone's trick, but I didn't think too long...

I heard footsteps approaching between the rocks. I turned around and saw a cow walking towards me, but it wasn't an ordinary cow... it was a Her face is a human face! I froze, she didn't look at me, she walked and disappeared. Then a woman dressed in black appeared, but her face was also the face of a cow! Her footsteps sounded like hooves, and her face was a strange, terrifying, pale white colour. She passed by me and disappeared in the same way.

My heart beats wildly, my grip on the weapon hardens. I then heard a terrifying crying sound, coming closer and further away, and the sound of hooves hitting the ground. I saw the same woman reappear, crying with a voice that cracked the bones. I tried to shoot, but the trigger was petrified, not moving! I advanced further and further, her voice filling the night.

I had no choice but to run. I left my supplies behind and started running as fast as I could. Behind me there was a sound, like a herd of horses running after me. I hit a rock and fell to the ground, I felt like I was about to fall off a cliff if it wasn't for God's protection. I got up, almost crying in terror, running in circles with no direction.

I saw a fire burning at the bottom of the mountain, so I went down towards it, shouting: "I am an intruder!". I came closer until I saw eight men sitting around the fire. An elder among them looked at me and said, "Safety." I sat down among them, but the fire in front of them was no ordinary fire, it had no flame or heat, it was still and unmoving. Even worse, the men's faces looked like the face of the terrifying woman I had just seen.

The blood froze in my veins. I grabbed my weapon, and as soon as I clung to it, they all disappeared! I knew then that what I had encountered was not human. It was a jinn playing with me in the mountain.

The story doesn't end here... (👉 The events continue exactly as you told them: The return of the fairy woman, the sound like crying, the appearance of your fairy-like father, shooting fire as a distress call and hearing the villages' response, your descent to leave the village farms... etc. without dropping any scene).

The next morning I took shelter in a village. Three years later, the murderer from our village was caught and executed with retribution, closing a human tragedy that had almost burned green and white. But what I saw in Jabal Arhab, that night I lived between Revenge of the humans and terror of the elvesHer imprint remains to this day.

I escaped death twice... once by a human bullet that was not fired, and once by an invisible hand that tried to snatch me from between the rocks. I'm telling you: Yemen's mountains are not all static... some of them are inhabited by unseen things

A question that stayed with me even after the night was over...
I don't know why, but whenever I remember what happened, this question comes back to me:
Was that woman who first appeared... the same one who had been waiting for me from the beginning?
Did she know I would be passing by?
Was she stalking me from the moment I left my village?
Or have I entered a world where no one comes out the same as they went in?
I don't have the answer...
But I'm writing it now, and I'm waiting for those who are reading to share their opinion in the comments.
Maybe one of you can see what I didn't see... or understand what I didn't understand.
